Information The only small milling machine that is rigid enough to machine without chatter (within the limits of the tooling.) The belt drive models are essentially a drill press with a moving table - a belt drive head has very little mass (or weight), to absorb cutting tool impacts and will flex and rebound causing chatter. This gear head alone weighs several hundred pounds. Rigid! The round heavy cast iron one-piece column allows the head to be swivelled to gain an extra 12" of the table travel so a workpiece of 33" can be milled over its entire length without repositioning the workpiece. Also, with the swivelling head, heavy duty drilling can be done at the side or the rear of the machine which leaves the milling table free for milling set-ups. With a dovetail style column, neither of these operations are possible.
